Meet Stuart – Community Connector

Stuart is a proactive young Riverton local who has shown a passionate dedication for community service across the years and is wanting to positively impact his local community with his spare time.

Stuart has felt driven to support the community where he lives after reflecting on and acknowledging the deep impact the COVID-19 pandemic has likely had on members of his community, from having to be separated from family and friends, having to focus on getting re-employed and having to live without common institutions, groups and clubs.

“Being a student studying at home through the coronavirus has given me a lot of time to think and reflect on my position,” Stuart said.

“Having to stay home whilst it is hard for me, it must be harder for many other people around the community.”

No stranger to wanting to give back, Stuart has previously volunteered his time to a number of great organisations including; the Red Cross Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels, Parkinson’s Australia, Conservation Volunteers Australia, a deaf school in Sri Lanka, World’s Greatest Shave, Cancer Council Relay for Life, Tangoroa Blue and Greenbatch.

He is also currently studying Finance and History at Curtin University under the John Curtin Undergraduate Scholarship - a scholarship based around community leadership and academic success.

“When I go running I see a lot of people delivering food and home cooked meals to workers who are coming home late and the elderly,” Stuart said.

“One of my friends’ grandparents has received home cooked meal since the beginning of the virus and is still receiving them today.”

Stuart is very keen to support anyone needing that extra bit of help in the local area, so if you know of someone who could do with the support in

Canning Vale, Parkwood or Riverton and surrounding areas, you can get in touch with Stuart by emailing connect@canning.wa.gov.au or calling 1300 422 664.
